I have always been spell bound by the play of transmitted and reflected light as well as those magic moments when natural sunlight lights up stained glass. I draw inspiration from my garden or from photographs of the natural world. After an initial drawing, I select and cut the glass. I then apply layers of Reusche mineral based glass stains. Each colour I apply is baked permanently into the glass in my kiln with a series of individual firings with individual temperatures according to each pigment requirement . Once stained, I join the glass with lead ‘came’ using traditional methods. Glass can be hung both indoors and outside since temperature and damp don’t affect it. Once hung, the natural light can begin to bring it to life.
