“The only place in Somerset where you can see over 20 Artists and Craft makers work all in one building. Lovely bright and spacious building very well set out and something for everyone.”
“Gorgeous gallery full of art from talented artists and a really lovely cafe selling homemade food and gluten free food to die for, it’s the first time I’ve ever been offered gluten free quiche, it really was lovely – a real hidden gem.”
“One of the best craft centres I have visited, well priced and well made crafts. The lady who served me was lovely she makes the candles, soap and bath bombs and was so helpful and chatty. I bought quite a few items which are now on show in my home and look lovely.”
“This is a hidden gem of a gallery and anyone visiting Glastonbury should take a look. Somerset Crafts is only a few miles out of town and well worth the trip. The Gallery is a large, airy, white building which displays the work of the members of the group. There is a good mixture of arts and crafts including photography, textiles, stone carving, ceramics, painting, sculpture and wood carving. The work is of a high standard and there are items to suit every pocket. There is also a good selection of cards on offer. Somerset Crafts showcases the work of local artists and that local inspiration makes the pieces on display unique to this place. The person staffing the gallery is one of the artists so very knowledgeable about the exhibition. There is plenty of parking directly outside the Gallery which itself is all on one level. There is also a cafe outside serving home cooked food and cakes which can be eaten outside in warm weather or inside the gallery if you prefer.”
“Visited this excellent centre. Quite small but an extensive and varied selection of quality artwork from local artists including stained glass, jewellery, paintings, photography, woodwork, sculpture, etc. It has a very good cafe which serves good hot and cold snacks and drinks. Give yourself plenty of time to fully explore the area including the rivers of the Somerset wetlands.
Well worth the visit – recommended.”
“If you want good quality art at reasonable prices, this is the place to go. Crafts represented includes pottery, glass, watercolours, fabrics, weaving, embroidery, woodworking, sculptures to name a few. It also house information about the local marshes and the wildlife that inhabits it.
I’ve been a few times and each time have ended up buying some art.”
“I come down to Somerset quite frequently and this place is always on the itinerary. They rotate their providers and so there is usually something new to see. I have picked up some interesting pieces here to take home. Prices are good. Even if you don’t buy, it’s interesting to have a look and they have a cafe on site.”
“This centre is in the heart of the Somerset Levels, very close to the Nature reserves at Shapwick Heath and Westhay. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the art within is all sourced locally and often reflects local themes. The area is famous for the Starling Murmuration and the abundance of wildlife. The themes are reflected in the gallery with wonderful turned wood, glass, ceramics, prints, paintings and photography. There is a range of prices too to suit most pockets.
There is also a cafe …which prides itself on being eco-friendly. They serve whole-foods and snacks at reasonable prices and re-cycle all their waste and encourage you to do the same. great place to pop into if visiting the area. Toilets on site too, and access for people with disabilities.”
“We visited here by chance. It’s easy to find near the village of Westhay and is on the same site as the Avalon Marshes nature centre. Somerset Crafts is run by helpful and friendly volunteers and one of its aims is to showcases local arts and crafts talent. During my visit there were lots of paintings, some pottery and fine arts for sale. There is a cafe in the same building (which I didn’t use having bought a coffee from the hut attached to the Avalon Marshes nature centre). We enjoyed our 30 minute visit here and if you are passing do call in and do your bit to support arts and crafts in Somerset.”
