My name is Susie Spanring and I make ceramics which are intended to weave their way joyfully into daily life. Thrown at the wheel and also sometimes hand-built, my pots have their own character, good to hold, lovely to look at and perfect for serving food. Each piece of stoneware is decorated by hand using various techniques, such as sgraffito, my own paper stencils and wax resist. The designs and motifs are influenced by my Somerset surroundings and the changing seasons. My hope is that each unique item will become part of the intimacy of the home, engaging with lives as they are filled with delicious food and drink. Cradled by hands, touched by lips, washed, dried and put away – I hope my pots can help transform ordinary daily drudgery into delight.
