Metal Artist
The term Repousse means ‘Raised in relief on a thin piece of metal hammered through from the underside’. Examples can be found made by the Mayans, Egyptians, Celts and Scandinavians usually from gold, silver, pewter or copper. It was also made popular during the 19th C Arts & Crafts movement, particularly by Archibald Knox.
As an aircraft builder my metalwork skills overflowed into my artwork and I have been producing copper work for 45 years. Many of my Celtic knot designs are taken from or inspired by 1,200 year old art found in the ‘Book of Kells’, ‘Lindisfarne Gospels’ and carved stone crosses scattered throughout the British Isles.
