Nigel Maddocks
Wood Turner
I took up wood turning as a hobby whilst working as a Police Officer, as a way of relaxing. When I retired I found that I had the time to explore the hobby in more detail. I made items which were both decorative and functionable, and then did craft fares to finance the hobby.
I joined a wood turning club and this led to demonstrating how to use the tools available, by the manufacturers. I have travelled to Europe and the USA, as well as touring the UK, demonstrating the wide range of tools. I have demonstrated to other clubs the skills of wood turning.
I along with a like-minded group helped start Somerset Woodturners Club in 1992. The club meet the second Monday each month, at Bridgwater market junction 24, at 730pm. Activities include demonstrations by other woodturners, and hands on evenings where we teach and show the craft.
